It is 2021 and gender diversity in the workplace has come to the forefront over the last decade and rightly so. Research has shown that diversity in the workforce can lead to enhanced innovation and growth. Companies that have one or more women in board positions tend to have higher average ROI than those with only men in leadership positions (Forbes). Despite the recent emphasis on gender diversity, the reality is that there are more CEO’s named ‘Peter’ than there are women CEOs in the FTSE 100 (CBR).
Not enough women in STEM
Especially in male dominant industries like technology, it is rare to find women in key management positions. Today, the technology sector is on a path of rapid growth and transformation accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. It is now more than ever, that the industry needs diverse teams to effectively manage the upcoming innovation and growth opportunities. However, research indicates that 70% women with qualifications in STEM do not pursue a career in these industries due to a lack of confidence (Deloitte). Additionally, 44% of the women working in the technology industry cite that they find it difficult to find role models or mentors in their field (TrustRadius).
FDM everywoman in Technology Awards
These findings highlight the importance of honoring women in technology and empowering them to inspire a generation of future technology leaders. The FDM everywoman in Technology Awards is aimed at doing just that. For the 11th year in a row, the awards celebrate the tech industry’s most exceptional talent, from the UK and beyond, creating role models to inspire the next generation of tech stars. The awards play an important role in promoting careers and showcasing achievements of women in the sector.
