Working at Onguard: Meet Stijn

Persistent, motivating, and passionate: these are the words his friends use to describe him. He is one of the main actors in the success of CreditY, he has a passion for politics and, in his free time, he teaches children about the importance of financial independence. Meet Stijn Horlings, Customer Success Manager at Onguard!

From customer service to customer success

Stijn’s first real job was in the crypto world. “I started on the support desk of a crypto company, where I’d go from helping customers during the day to waking up at night to check the markets,” Stijn recalls with a laugh. “It started as a hobby but quickly turned into an obsession.

After studying public administration and commercial economics, he realised he wanted to work with people and make an impact. This, combined with his passion for simplifying complex concepts and making them accessible to others, is what led him to Onguard.

My first contact with a recruiter concerned a position in another Visma company but it was not the perfect fit. The same recruiter called me later for a Business Development position at Onguard. Starting in January 2025, I transitioned to Customer Success for CreditY.”

What’s great about working at Onguard?

Everyone is approachable and willing to help. You can talk to anybody about anything, which creates a great work environment. I also enjoy the fun events. My favourite one was the ski trip to Austria. I had only been working at Onguard for one month at that point, and it definitely helped ‘break the ice’. I also loved the tree-planting initiative last November. I had never imagined myself planting a tree.

Working at Onguard: Customer success simplified

According to Stijn, there is a golden, yet simple, recipe for understanding his clients. “Listen, understand, and act. I drive to your office, drink coffee with you, and really try to understand your business. It’s not about fancy processes; it’s about simplicity and being hands-on,” he explains.

I remember a good example from a client we recently visited. While I was talking with a user of our software, they mentioned a functionality that we had recently introduced, that they weren’t using much. I’d heard similar feedback from another client before, so I brought the feedback back to the Onguard team and we decided to make this feature more adaptable in the product. This is a great example of how listening to your clients can help you improve your product and consequently help your clients achieve more out of their automation.

Exciting new beginnings with CreditY

“I enjoy my new role as a Customer Success manager for CreditY because we now provide smart credit management as an option for SMEs and accountants too. The biggest strength of CreditY is simplicity. It automates payment reminders and integrates seamlessly with their ERP systems.”

“The best part? When I give a demo, people immediately get it. If they have a question we’re always there to help but, most times, they can manage everything on their own. This is what the future is about: giving businesses the tools to be more efficient, and ultimately, more successful.”
